There is a need in the animal to dive into a cozy nest and chill there, like a warm bed with a heavy blanket, and with the lights off. And we make the room around the bed smaller and smaller to try to be more snug in there. This has progressed over many generations and we now have advanced bedroom techniques
Leaning into one's animalistic nesting instincts is called biophilic design. You practice it by creating like perching spots and indoor ponds and shit $$$
Anyway, it's a dragon hoard thing. It's an active/passive system thing. Like: one room is made to serve a primary purpose, and another room is just meant to support that other room
Like a cleaning closet
In a two-room apartment you could have one main room (reception + lounge + synths + detective shit), and one secondary room (store extra synths and seasonal rugs) (and also you sleep in here)
You could keep room two a bit colder and keep potatoes lol
Yes, and it being cooler could help with sleep, too. Anyway, this two-room arrangement bears with it two secondary things: one, you will be protected in your bed by a lot of hard shelves and stuff...! Two, you will be sleeping with your treasure...! That's dragonesque fr.
Secrecy
Also like the queen has her "bedroom" which is this big luxurious bed chamber with the four poster with draperies and maids and all that. But she sleeps in a smaller, snugger little space behind it. The bed chamber is just for showing off. The real sleeping place is a hidden nook where nobody will bother her.
Well, what if instead of a nook there is a kind of archive? Dull and cool. Shadow from industrial fan. Some kind of modular shelves
And you still sleep there!
